Light burned magnesia ball is used primarily as a converter slag splashing the protective slag composition of regulator. Because of furnace protection by slag, splashing slag is required to have appropriate viscosity and refractoriness. Reasonable slag composition is the key to the implementation of furnace protection by slag splashing. General slag can not be directly used to implement furnace protection and a certain amount of magnesium oxide balls should be added to adjust and take place of dolomite in order to increase the content of MgO in the slag.
Since MgO is a high-melting-point mineral, with melting point of 2800 ¡æ, the increase of MgO content in the slag leads to the increase of slag viscosity and refractoriness, the easier fusing of slag and furnace lining to form an effective slag protective layer on the furnace lining, thus, improves the lining life and reduces consumption.
